*Mammoths in the Mountain West
Dr. Larry Agenbroad, one of the world’s leading experts on prehistoric mammoths, will be the featured speaker at this month’s Herrett Forum at the Herrett Center for Arts and Science. His topic will be “Mammoths in the Mountain West.” The event is free and open to the public and will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14.
Agenbroad is perhaps best known outside the scientific community for the leading role he took in raising the remains of a frozen mammoth from the Siberian tundra several years ago. The project was featured in a Discovery Channel documentary. Since 1966, he has actively researched the Quaternary Period, from 2-million years ago to the present. His research in geology, archaeology, hydrology, and paleontology are widely regarded in the science community. Agenbroad’s discussion will center on the mammoths that are known to have lived in the mountain west, including right here in southern Idaho, based on remains that have been found below the Perrine Bridge.
